How do I change the keyboard layout for typing in something besides English?

I want to be able to type in languages other than English that use special characters but I don't know how to configure the keyboard so that it will. for example, allow me to type in French, Portuguese, or German just to name a few languages. I tried looking under the formatting for the keyboard but it was random for me as to what character was made when I pressed a particular key. Is there something that tells you what each key will do when you reformat the keys to reflect the new language?How do I change the keyboard layout for typing in something besides English?
If you go to control panel, then keyboads and other devices, select your keyboard and you should be able to choose the language there, however you will need to know the layout that this language uses.

    What's the best way to change the computer language from English to Mandarin Chinese? Is there a way to change it so that the two languages are interchangeable? (so that it's not entirely in Chinese) I have a Windows XP if that is of any importance. My parents are trying to learn how to use the computer, but they're not completely fluent in English. I figure the best way would be for them to learn in Chinese. I'm guessing I'd have to get a Mandarin Chinese-English keyboard as well. Any advice would help.How do you change computer languages?
    There is no such thing as a Mandarin - English keyboard. Keyboards in China are exactly the same as keyboards in the USA.How do you change computer languages?

    How can I change my keyboard to type in Greek?

    I want to be able to switch from English to Greek and back again. I think there is a language setting, but I don't know how to do it.

    Thanks.How can I change my keyboard to type in Greek?
    This assumes that you are using Windows (XP) Go to Control Panel, open Regional and Language Options, Click Languages, then Details, then Add. You can then add the language that you want and use the Language Bar to switch between the languages that you have installed. If your keyboard is English, it will remain in English (on the keys), but if you know the Greek keyboard well enough (that is you don't have to look at the keys to type in Greek), then you'll be able to type in Greek. Or if you have a Greek keyboard you can plug it in and use it. I do this with a Spanish keyboard and English.How can I change my keyboard to type in Greek?

    Why is my keyboard icon gone?

    I'm having the same problem on MSN where my question mark turns out to be an 脡, and so on and so forth.

    I know how to fix it - click my keyboard icon, change my language back to English.

    The only problem is.. I can't find my keyboard icon. I know what it is, it's not like I'm just not noticing it.. it's there if I make a new user on my laptop.

    I've been trying to get it back, by going to properties and such.. but no luck.

    Is there a way I can get it back?Why is my keyboard icon gone?

    Change the language in vista?

    I'm having a HP Pavilion lap-top with genuine Vista.It came with Japanese Language and I need to change the language into English.

    How can I do this?

    Note:

    Computer consist with the recovery manager software and the Vista serial number.

    (This is not regarding Keyboard Layout)

    thank you.Change the language in vista?
    You can change the language Windows uses to display text in wizards, dialog boxes, menus, and other items in the user interface. Some display languages are installed by default; others require you to install additional language files.

    Before you can install a display language, you need access to the language files. These files can be on your computer, on a computer on your network, or on your Windows DVD; or they can be downloaded from the web.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    Ron

    Windows or Mac?

    For Windows, go check the Regional and Language Options in the control panel.

    On a Mac, go check the settings in %26quot;International%26quot; in the System Preferences.

  • How can I type in a different language on Windows Vista?

    Yes, I had gone through the procedure.

    I went to control panel, language and regional options, keybords, and other input methods

    I clicked on %26quot;Change keyboards%26quot;

    I clicked on %26quot;Add%26quot;

    I double clicked on Czech.

    I double clicked on %26quot;keyboard%26quot;.

    I checked %26quot;Czech%26quot;

    I clicked %26quot;OK%26quot;

    I clicked %26quot;OK%26quot; in the other window.

    For several weeks, all was fine. There was a language tool bar on my task bar, or I could switch between languages using left Alt + Shift.

    But when I logged on today, the keyboard short cut did not work. There was no EN icon on my task bar. I helplessly opened the control panel. In the regional and language options I clicked on %26quot;Change keyboards%26quot;. Dumbfounded, I stared at the screen. There were still two keyboards, nothing seemed wrong. But my keyboard short cut still doesn't work, and there is no language tool bar on my task bar.

    I have been altering some settings and options yesterday, so it is possible that I somehow disabled something.

    What's wrong, and how do I fix it?How can I type in a different language on Windows Vista?
    not sure what the problem is.... just a guess...

    try to right-mouse-click on the main toolbar (bottom of your screen) and under Toolbars, check if the 'Language bar' is selected...or appears as an option...

    unchecking the 'Language bar' shouldn't make a difference in terms of availability... I can still switch my keyboards even though the bar is not checked... but if the 'language bar' doesn't show up under the 'toolbar' menu you may want to remove the Czech keyword, restart your computer, add the Czech keyboard again and see if it works...

    I hope this helps...
